Men's Track & Field 2/17/2018 7:31:00 PM Lea Sobieraski Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant Wildcat Men Place Sixth At Golden Eagle Invitational BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's indoor track and field team participated in the Golden Eagle Invite hosted by The College at Brockport today. It was the second meet this year the Wildcats have competed at Brockport. Daemen had several top-ten finishes to place sixth out of 15 competing teams with 41 points. Host Brockport claimed the team title with a score of 203, while Geneseo (75), RPI (72), Buffalo State (52.50) and St. John Fisher (50) rounded out the top-five. The freshman phenom duo of Alonzo Rodriguez-Spencer (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Rodney Corbin (Williamsville, N.Y.) continued to lead the way for the Wildcats as they accounted for 16 of Daemen's 41 points. Corbin placed second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.05 seconds. Corbin also added a tenth place showing in the 200-meter, running that event in 25.35 seconds. Rodriguez-Spencer ran a 1:08.70 in the 500-meter, good for a third-place showing. Other top-five finishes went to Tyler Compo (Lancaster, N.Y.) and Daemen's 4x400 relay team of Compo, Rodriguez-Spencer, Jonny Schmidt (Clarence Center, N.Y.) and Justin Petrocy (Elma, N.Y.). Compo placed fourth behind Rodriguez-Spencer in the 500m with a time of 1:09.69 to earn the Wildcats six points. The 4x400 relay squad finished third out of ten, crossing the finish line in 3:35.59 to give Daemen another six points. Josh Bodnar (Fillmore, N.Y.), Schmidt and Petrocy rounded out Daemen's top-ten finishers on the track with their showings in their respective individual events. Bodnar placed tenth out of 46 entrants in the mile (4:33.03), Schmidt finished seventh in the 500m (1:12.49), and Petrocy placed ninth in the 500m (1:13.37). In field events, senior standout Zach Laird (Alexander, N.Y.) put forth a good showing in the shot put, giving Daemen two points in his production. He placed seventh out of a field of 49 with a throw of 13.70 meters. Sullivan Keller (Alden, N.Y.) finished 13th with a heave of 12.34 meters. In the long jump, Shaquille Corrica (New York City, N.Y.) leaped 6.47 meters, good for an eighth-place finish and three points. The Wildcats conclude their indoor campaign next weekend when they travel to Staten Island to compete in the East Coast Conference Championships slated for Friday, February 23.
