Corbin, Keller Set Benchmarks As Men's Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season

GENESEO, N.Y. - Sprinter Rodney Corbin (Williamsville, N.Y.) and thrower Sullivan Keller (Alden, N.Y.) each established new team records as the Daemen College men's track and field team opened the 2018 outdoor season today at the Geneseo Invitational.

Corbin, competing in his first outdoor meet as a collegian, blazed a trail in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, establishing new benchmarks for each distance. He finished second out of 66 competitors in the shorter of the two, crossing the finish line in 10.89 seconds, one-tenth of a second better than the previous team record (10.99) set by longtime Wildcat sprinter Niko Jemmison at the 2016 East Coast Conference Championship meet. In the 200-meter dash, Corbin broke Sam Rugg's five-year old record (22.90 seconds at the ROC City Classic on April 6, 2013) by finishing seventh out of 58 runners with a time of 22.68 seconds. He also added a 12th-place finish in the long jump (6.10 meters) today.

Keller, a 6-foot-3 sophomore, registered a long throw of 39.37 meters in the hammer competition, besting the previous team record (35.38 meters) set by Patrick Dorsey at the 2015 ECC Championship meet. Keller's throw was good for a 19th-place finish today. He also added a 15th-place showing in the shot put where his best throw traveled 12.54 meters.

Senior Zach Laird (Alexander, N.Y.) registered a pair of top-10 finishes today as well. He was Daemen's top thrower in the shot put, placing ninth with a throw of 13.26 meters. He also placed eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.76 meters.

Back on the track, freshman Alonzo Rodriguez-Spencer (Buffalo, N.Y.) debuted with a ninth-place finish in the 400-meter dash. His time of 52.28 seconds was just off Jemmison's team-record pace (51.14) seconds which he set at the 2014 ECC Championship meet.

Daemen returns to action next weekend (Saturday, April 7) at the Dave Labor Alumni Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock University.
