AMHERST, N.Y. -- Daemen University junior setter Olivia Alessi (East Aurora, N.Y.) has been selected as the East Coast Conference Setter of the Week for matches played September 12-18. The official announcement was made in the ECC's weekly sport report, which was released this afternoon.

One week after she tallied her 1,000th career assist, Alessi took over setting duties for Daemen in their split of Fairmont State and West Liberty over the weekend weekend, totaling 53 assists (10.6 assists per set) and 24 digs through two matches. In Saturday's match against West Liberty alone, the junior setter totaled a season-high 37 assists for an average of 12.33 assists/set and 16 digs to finish with her second double-double (assists-digs) of the season. She added two kills, two aces and a block on the weekend.

On the season, Alessi has appeared in five matches and totals 126 assists for an average of 8.4 assists/set.

Alessi picks up her first ECC weekly award of the season, and the fourth of her career. She was named Setter of the Week three times last season.

This is the second straight week that the Wildcats have earned ECC weekly awards. Teammates Maggie Burns (Louisville, Ky.) and Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.) earned Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week honors last week, respectively.

Alessi and the Wildcats enter conference play with a 6-3 record on the season. They return to Lumsden Gym on Thursday, September 22 when they host crosstown foe D'Youville. Tip-off is set for 6 PM.
