Arruda, Wildcats Blank SUNY Canton

10/21/2012 4:15:00 PM

Box Score AMHERST, NY - Senior goalkeeper Gary Arruda (Brampton, ON/St. Augustine) made six saves and junior striker Kyle Clifford (West Seneca, NY/St. Francis) found the back of the net as the Daemen Wildcats took home a 1-0 shutout victory over the SUNY Canton Kangaroos today at Dimp Wagner Stadium.  With the win, Daemen jumps to 4-8 on the season while SUNY Canton falls to 7-8-1.

Arruda, who was the team's primary goalkeeper from 2006-08, returned to the team last year as a redshirt and, today, saw his first game action in some four years.  He looked as if he didn't miss a beat, making several difficult saves en route to the shutout victory.

Clifford's tally in the 49th minute, his second of the season, stood up as the lone goal needed to dispatch of the Kangaroos.  Clifford got behind the defense on a long feed from freshman Robert Ralyea (Lockport, NY/Lockport HS) and put his shot hard past the outstretched arms of SUNY Canton keeper William Banahene who raced out of the net to no avail.

The Wildcats will close out their season next Sunday, October 28, when they make the trip to battle these same SUNY Canton Kangaroos.
