Box Score 2 ROCHESTER, NY - The Daemen College women's volleyball team took a split of their two matches today, defeating the NYIT Bears 3-1 (25-27, 25-22, 25-21, 25-14) before falling in five sets to the host Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks (21-25, 23-25, 27-25, 25-17, 7-15) at the Voller Athletic Center. Daemen moves to 19-10 on the season.
After dropping the opening set to NYIT, Daemen rebounded and came away the four-set victory against the East Coast Conference school. Sophomore
Lindsey Nowak (Hamburg, NY/Immaculata) led the way with 16 kills in the match.
Daemen also got nine kills and nine blocks from sophomore
Ye Wang (Beijing, China/Hachioji Jissen) in the middle, while on the outside senior
Joanna Fretthold (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) and junior
Jenn Karan (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) were splitting 16 kills between them.
Daemen's five-set loss to the Redhawks split the season series between the two rivals, while Daemen also drops to 1-5 on the season in matches that go the distance; that includes an 0-4 mark in such matches in just the last eight days.
Karan had 18 kills in a losing effort while Wang pounded down 12 and Nowak had 11.
Alexa Antoni led the Redhawks with 20 kills while Maggie Concannon contributed 61 assists in the match.
Daemen got a career-best 41 digs from junior
Paige Tilert (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) while
Kaley Vazquez (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) had 35 assists.
