Wildcats' Offensive Woes Continue In Loss To Roberts Wesleyan

1/31/2012 8:39:00 PM

Box Score AMHERST, NY - For the second consecutive game, the Daemen Wildcats were severely hampered at the offensive end of the floor, resulting in a 53-41 loss at the hands of the visiting Roberts Wesleyan Raiders tonight at Lumsden Gymnasium.  The loss is Daemen's first at home this season and just the 11th time they've dropped a home game in their last 124 outings dating back to 2003.  Roberts Wesleyan earns the split in the season series against the Wildcats and improves to 15-8 on the season and 5-3 in American Mideast Conference play.  Daemen falls to 18-6, 8-2.

The Wildcats struggled mightily from the field all night long, shooting just 17-for-72 (24%) on the game, resulting in a season-low 41 points.  Trailing 25-13 with 3:07 left in the first half, the Wildcats went on a quick 8-0 spurt with a jumper by senior Courtney Donovan and then back-to-back three-point baskets - one from junior Ellie Allen and the second from Donovan - and it appeared they were snapping out of their funk, down by just four at the half, 25-21.

However, the Raiders were quick out of the gates to open the second half, scoring the period's first four points and extending out on a 13-3 run to lead 38-24 with 14:27 to play.  From there, Daemen's offensive problems continued and the Wildcats were only able to get the lead under double figures twice - trailing by eight with 9:04 to play and again at the 8:16 mark.  Roberts Wesleyan pushed the lead back to 14 and Daemen never seriously threatened again.

The Raiders, who didn't exactly set the world on fire themselves offensively (36% shooting; 21-for-58), were paced by Marissa Bunce 13 points, albeit on 4-for-18 shooting from the field.  Sarah Child chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds.

Donovan notched 11 points for Daemen who also got 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals from junior guard Samantha StanfieldEllie Allen added nine points and center Monica Kosior grabbed nine boards.

Daemen looks to right the ship when they travel to Wilberforce for a Saturday matinee tip this weekend.
