WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y.- The Daemen College women's tennis team secured its fourth victory of the season with a 5-4 decision over Houghton College today. The win snapped a six-match skid for the Wildcats as they upped their record to 4-10 in the program's second season of existence.
Daemen's triumph today was led by freshmen Brianna Fiorita (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara-Wheatfield) and Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian). The duo paired up to defeat Houghton's Bethany Chesebro and Amanda Wojcinski 8-0 in the No. 1 doubles slot. Both of them then defeated their opponents in singles play as well, as Scanlan downed Chesebro in No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 and Fiorita out-matched Jennifer Lacucci in No. 3 Singles 6-2, 6-2.
Sophomore Shaylah Iverson (Canandaigua, N.Y./Naples) beat Molly Freihoff 6-0, 6-2 in No. 2 singles while teammate Aman Shamaa (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) overcame Houghton's Wojcinski 6-2, 6-1 in No. 4 singles.
Daemen will return to action tomorrow as they host Kueka College in a 1 p.m. match at the Park Country Club courts.
