Women's Soccer Falls At NYIT In Overtime

Haessner Makes 9 Saves In Losing Effort

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - One game removed from an offensive explosion, the Daemen College women's soccer team experienced a power outage up front, falling to the New York Institute of Technology 1-0 in overtime at President's Stadium in an East Coast Conference matchup this afternoon.

Sina Windmueller scored on a header after a crossing feed from Kathryn Boehmer just 1:42 into the first overtime period, breaking the scoreless tie and delivering a win for the Bears.  Windmueller's second goal of the season lifted NYIT to 4-5-1 overall and 1-3-0 in conference play.

The loss was a stinging one for Daemen (4-5-0, 0-4-0 ECC).  Coach Dan Dolan felt his team had turned a corner in Tuesday's 5-0 win over SUNY Canton, breaking out of an offensive funk that had lasted for five games. But, they were kept off the scoreboard today for the second straight conference game, leaving them still in search of the program's first-ever ECC victory.

"It was a tough loss today," Dolan said.  "Even though we didn't play particularly well in stretches, we generated some nice opportunities, but just failed to capitalize."

NYIT held a 20-7 advantage in total shots, placing 10 on frame.  Daemen put three shots on goal, all of which were stopped by the Bears' Victoria Barclay who picked up her third win of the season and the shutout.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Kathryn Haessner (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia) made nine saves for Daemen in a losing effort.

It was the second straight tightly contested affair between the Wildcats and Bears.  Daemen scored a 3-2 come-from-behind win when the teams met for the first time ever last season.

It was also Daemen's first overtime loss since a 2-1 home defeat to the University of Maine-Fort Kent on Sept. 2, 2012.

The good news for Daemen is that they'll get a chance to rebound quickly.  They'll face St. Thomas Aquinas College tomorrow (Oct. 5) in another ECC matchup.  Game time is set for 12:30 p.m. in Sparkill, N.Y.
