BRIDGEPORT, Conn.- The Daemen College women's volleyball team saw their 2013 season come to an end today as they dropped their season finale to the University of Bridgeport in four sets, 22-25, 25-20, 24-26, 22-25. The loss snapped the Wildcats' season-high 15 match winning streak, as Daemen finishes the year 23-10 and 10-6 in East Coast Conference play. With the win, Bridgeport rose to 19-2 overall and an ECC-best 15-2 and will enter next week's ECC Tournament as the top seed.

No set was decided by more than five points, and it was strong defensive play that got the Purple Knights the win. As a team, they racked up 55 digs (with three different players hitting double digits in that category), and had 39 blocks.

For Daemen, seniors
Kaley Vazquez (Kenmore, N.Y./Kenmore West),
Paige Tilert (Derby, N.Y./Genesee CC) and
Brittany Anthon (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster), junior
Chelsea Turcer (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central) and freshman Amber Dryzmala (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) all had good matches despite the loss.

Vazquez picked up a match-high 28 assists, Anthon led the Wildcats with 12 kills, and Tilert had a team-high 13 digs. Turcer had 15 assists, and Dryzmala had one kill less than Anthon, notching 11.

For Bridgeport, numerous performances anchored their win. Sarah Rose had a match-high 17 kills, while Fernanda Silva had 20 assists and Martina Santia tied for the team lead with 14 digs. Ying Shen tied Santia's 14 digs and added 11 kills to post a double-double. Biljana Savic had the performance of the match, notching an incredible triple-double with 24 assists, 10 kills and 12 digs.

Despite the season-ending loss, it was still a very successful year for Wildcats volleyball. As stated before, they posted winning marks in both conference (10-6) and overall play (23-10), went on an incredible 15-match winning streak, and repeated as United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Champions.Â
