HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's tennis team picked up a 7-2 win in non-conference action on the road today at Houghton College, running their overall record to 4-7 this season.  Houghton, of the Empire 8 Conference and NCAA Division III, fell to 4-10 so far this fall.

Junior Tianna Washington (North Chili, N.Y./Monroe CC), sophomore Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) and freshmen Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and Celina Wozniak (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) were all double-point winners today for the Wildcats.

Scanlan downed Houghton's Bethany Chesebro (6-0, 6-0) without dropping a game at No. 1 singles and teamed with Wozniak, at No. 1 doubles, to take out Chesebro and Laura Jacuzzo (8-2).  Wozniak was a winner at No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-4) over the Highlanders' Lisa Jones.

Ringler and Washington teamed up at No. 3 doubles to beat Andrea Melhorn and Elizabeth Wideman (8-2).  Ringler got through her match in the No. 2 singles slot nearly unblemished (6-0, 6-1) vs. Jacuzzo, while Washington fought back from one-set-to-none deficit to defeat Melhorn at No. 6 singles (2-6, 6-4, 1-0).

Daemen also got a hard-fought, three-set win from freshman Sarah Crissy (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) who downed Houghton's Molloy Feiholfer at No. 5 singles (6-3, 1-6, 1-0).

Daemen looks for their second straight victory tomorrow when they face Fairmont State University in Fairmont, W.Va. at 3 p.m.
