Volleyball Can't Rally Vs. Long Island Post

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's volleyball team saw their struggles continue today as the Wildcats dropped a three-set match (16-25, 15-25, 23-25) to visiting Long Island Post University in East Coast Conference action at Lumsden Gymnasium.  With the loss, Daemen drops to 1-20 on the season and 1-7 in the ECC.  LIU Post improved to 10-10 overall and 5-3 in league play with the win.

Negative attack percentages plagued Daemen in the first two sets as the Wildcats committed more errors (16) than kills (13) to put themselves in a two-sets-to-none deficit.

In the third, Daemen battled valliantly at the urging of head coach Mark Parisi who energized the squad with his passion from the sideline.  Daemen led by three (19-16) in the third, but couldn't seal the deal.  With the match knotted at 22-all, the Wildcats won a long rally with a kill by sophomore Amber Drzymala (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) to take a one-point lead.

It would be short-lived however, as the Pioneers rattled off the next three points with kills from three different players to close out the set and the match.

Danielle Valenza led the Pioneers with 10 kills while Monica Amador notched 25 assists.  Katie Hudencial (11 digs) and Rachel Ringor (10 digs) led the Pioneers' defensive effort.

Drzymala and senior Lindsey Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y./Immaculata) split 14 kills to pace the Wildcats.  Freshman Katie McKrell (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) threw in 18 assists while Drzymala added a team-high 10 digs.

Daemen closes out their season-long four-match home-stand when they host rival Roberts Wesleyan College this Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
