Volleyball Falls at League-Leading Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Senior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) totaled six kills, 16 assists, five service aces and seven digs to lead the University of Bridgeport to a 3-0 victory over Daemen College here tonight in East Coast Conference women's volleyball action.

Bridgeport, which has now won 12 of his last 13 matches, opened with a commanding 25-5 victory in game one and completed the match with scores of 25-14 and 25-13 in games two and three.

Bridgeport, the defending conference champion and preseason pick to win the ECC title again this year, improved to 15-2 overall and 10-0 in the league. Daemen dropped to 1-22 overall and 1-9 in the league.

Sophomore Amber Drzymala (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) paced the Wildcats with five kills, six digs and two blocks, while senior Chelsea Turcer (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central) added a team-high 10 digs.

Daemen, which fell to the Purple Knights in a much closer match last month (25-22, 28-26, 25-17) at Lumsden Gym, was without senior Lindsey Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y./Immaculata) for most of tonight's match. Nowak, who appeared in just the first set and did not record kill, entered the match ranked third in the conference in total kills (237).

Junior Sara Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) helped the Bridgeport cause with nine kills, five digs and three blocks, while junior Martina Santia (Sezze, Italy) registered a team-high 16 digs.

The Purple Knights scored the first four points of game one and later opened up a 16-1 lead following a kill by senior Jade Zhao (Muhhot, China). The hosts held an early 7-4 lead in game two and took control with an 11-4 run. An attack error by Daemen capped the run and gave the Purple Knights an 18-8 lead. Game three was tied at 4-4 early on before the Purple Knights put together an 11-1 run. A kill by senior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) capped the spurt and gave the hosts a 15-5 advantage,

Daemen completes its weekend road trip with a match at Dowling College tomorrow at 11 a.m. Dowling owns a 12-8 overall record and is currently in second place in the ECC with a 6-3 league mark. The Golden Lions posted a 3-0 victory over Daemen last month at Lumsden Gym.
