Box Score BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Daemen College women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback against East Coast Conference (ECC) opponent, the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, today. The Purple Knights, favorites to win the conference according to the ECC Preseason Poll, remain unblemished with a 5-0-1 (2-0 ECC) record on the year while Daemen fell 2-5-0 for the season and dropped to 0-2 in conference play with the loss.
The defending ECC regular season champions and the No. 17 ranked team in the National Soccer Coaches of America Association (NSCAA) Division II poll, hold a 2-0 advantage in the series against the Wildcats. Bridgeport took home a 5-1 victory over Daemen last year at Dimp Wagner Stadium.
All three of Bridgeport's goals came in the second half. Ellen Karlsson scored her first goal of the season in the 67
th minute after taking a pass from Danielle Puddefoot. The Purple Knights next goal came less than three minutes later when Amanda Moura scored off a free kick which was assisted by Tabe Rauschenberger.
Puddefoot secured the win for the hosts as she tallied the last goal of the game in the 76
th which marked her second of the season.
UB launched 21 total shots in the game putting 10 on frame, compared to just two for the Wildcats.
Daemen goalkeeper
Kathryn Haessner (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia) made seven saves while her counterpart, Kaitlin Occhipinti, made one notching her third consecutive solo shut out.
The Wildcats return to action next weekend with a road trip to Pennsylvania to face off against Mercyhurst University for a non-league game Saturday (Sept. 27).
