ROCHESTER, N.Y.- The Daemen College women's tennis team dropped an East Coast Conference match against N.Y. Institute of Technology today, 9-0. NYIT, which was voted first in the ECC preseason poll with 64 points, improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in league play with the win.. This loss dropped the Wildcats to a 1-5 conference record and a 4-7 overall standing.
Sarah Crissy (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) and Marie McGrath (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), who were the standout doubles duo in last week's competition, could not keep their streak alive as the pair fell to Gabriela Siembab and Melanie Benyadi, 8-0.
Alessia Rossetti and Justyna Krol teamed up in today's competition against
Karli Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y./SUNY Geneseo) and
Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian). Hollins and Scanlan, who went 4-4 in doubles action last season and are currently 3-2 in ECC matchups, dropped the set today, 8-0.
Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda), last season's team MVP, and
Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) also faltered in the match up against Alexandra Borenhoff and Paulina Velasquez. The Wildcat duo fell, 8-0.
Hollins, Scanlan, Ringler, Robins and Crissy all competed in singles compettions on the day as well, along with
Delaney Fragale (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport). The Wildcats could not corral the Bears while each singles competition ended with a NYIT victory.
Today's match was played at the Midtown Athletic Club in Rochester. Daemen's normal home venues, the Ellicott Tennis Courts and Miller Tennis Center, were both unavailable today.
Daemen looks to bounce back in a non-conference matchup against Bentley University. This match will take place tomorrow, October 11, in Waltham, Mass. at 11:00 a.m.
