AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's tennis team competed in their best match of the season thus far as they defeated Houghton College 9-0 in the Wildcats' first home dual match of the season held at the Ellicott Tennis Courts. This non-conference win boosts the Wildcats' record to 1-2 overall.,
The singles sweep began with a win from freshman
David Gonzalez Villegas (Pereira, Colombia/Liceo Frances de Pereira) who matched up against senior Chase Rangel, 6-0, 6-0., With this win, Villegas is now 2-4 overall in singles competition.,
Joey Gentile (East Amherst, N.Y./Niagara University) picked up his first win of the season against Jordan Crouch, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0. ,
Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) ,swept Daniele Hammers 6-0, 6-0. John and
Andrew LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) both picked up wins while
Gregory Lowe (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) added in the final singles win for the Wildcats.
Daemen was equally impressive in doubles competition.,
Andrew LeMar and Gentile teamed up to take on Crouch and Rangel., The Wildcat pair were able to walk away with their first win as a duo, 8-3., Another first took place as Gonzalez Villegas and Veitengruber teamed up for the first time in their careers., This duo was able to take on Adam Gerrard and Daniel Hammers with a clean sweep of 8-0., The day ended with Lowe and
John LeMar defeating Holden Cole and Ethan Baker, 8-1., This is the first time the two paired together.
Today's match marked the completion of Daemen's non-championship fall season.  The Wildcats will resume their 2015-16 season on February 6, 2016 against Elmira College.
