Men's Basketball Adds Capital District Big Man During Early Signing Period

AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College Head Men's Basketball Coach Mike MacDonald announced today the signing of Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) to a National Letter of Intent during the NCAA's early signing period for the high school graduating class of 2016.  Sischo, a 6-foot-9, 250-pound center, will join the program and enroll in classes beginning in the Fall 2016 semester.

"We are very excited that Andrew has decided to join our program," MacDonald said.  "We wanted to get bigger with this recruiting class, and Andrew definitely helps us do that.  We also really love his skill level.  His ability to pass and shoot will fit right in with the way we like to play."

Sischo has blossomed into a quality player at the scholastic level for the Guilderland Dutchmen, competing in the Suburban Council league of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association's (NYSPHSAA) Section II just outside of the state capital, Albany.

In his first varsity season in 2014-15, Sischo helped the Dutchmen, led by coach Michael Parks, advance to the Section II Class AA championship game, achieving an overall record of 19-3.  Sischo averaged 10.2 points, six rebounds and one blocked shot per game, while shooting 54-percent from the field.  He was named to the Section II Class AA All-Tournament Team.

By committing, Sischo becomes Daemen's first signee from Section II since South Glens Falls product Jordan Greene (Fort Edward, N.Y./South Glens Falls), a 6-foot-5 forward who went over 1,000 points in his career here which wrapped up last winter.

Sischo will join a Daemen program that has won 90 games since the start of the 2011 season.  MacDonald will be looking to replace his 2016 graduating class which includes super-scorer Torrence Dyck (Rochester, N.Y./San Jacinto College), combo-guard Supreme Hannah (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) and face-up forward Ryan Grandits (Kenmore, N.Y./Medaille College).
