AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College Head Women's Basketball Coach
David Skolen announced today that his program has received three commitments from student-athletes in the class of 2016, inking Carina Pringle (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena), Alexis Perdue (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) and Sydney Jones (Clifton Springs, N.Y./Midlakes) to National Letters of Intent during the NCAA's early signing period this month.
"I'm very excited to have Carina, Alexis and Sydney here at Daemen for the next four years," said Skolen, the longtime Daemen hoops coach who has led the Wildcats to 459 wins since taking the reins in 1992. Â "They are very talented all-around players. Â Carina is a very intelligent player with great point guard skills. Â Alexis is a very intense and athletic player who runs the court well. Â And, Sydney is an outstanding scorer who makes very few mistakes. Â I think they will fit together real well, and they'll help our program tremendously."
Pringle, a 5-foot-6 guard, has earned five varsity letters for the Greece Athena Trojans and coach Mike Butler, although she'll be sitting out her senior season while recovering from an injury. Â The setback didn't stop Pringle from enjoying a stellar career for the Trojans, picking up two first-team All-Monroe County selections, as well as twice being named honorable mention All-Greater Rochester. Â A three-time team captain, Pringle helped the Trojans capture the Section V Class A championship as an eighth-grader in 2012.
Perdue is another 5-foot-6 guard, and she's entering her fourth varsity season for the Lindenhurst Bulldogs and coach Gregg Flynn, competing in Suffolk County League II. Â She was named the league's Rookie of the Year after her freshman season and has gone on to add a pair of all-league and all-county selections. Â As a sophomore, she ranked seventh in all of Suffolk County with 20.5 points per game, upping that ranking to sixth last season at 21.8 points per game.
Jones is a 5-foot-4 guard who is entering her fifth varsity season for the Midlakes Eagles and coach Nate Rich. Â She's already gone over 1,000 points in her career and was a second-team All-Greater Rochester selection last season after averaging 20 points, nine rebounds and four steals per game. Â She's also a two-time first-team All-Finger Lakes East selection, and helped the Eagles to an appearance in the Section V Class B championship game as a sophomore. Jones will join Midlakes High product
Dominique Burri (Clifton Springs, N.Y./Midlakes), a 5-foot-6 walk-on guard now in her junior season, on the Daemen roster.
Pringle, Perdue and Jones will join a veteran Daemen roster in 2016-17 which figures to return incumbent starters
Leah McDonell (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Cardinal O'Hara),
Natalie Galus (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier),
Taylor Heinold (Hamburg, N.Y./Immaculata) and
Sarah Saba (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster). Â The Wildcats are presently 1-1 early in their 2015-16 season.
