AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College men's basketball player
Torrence Dyck (Rochester, N.Y./San Jacinto College) has been named the East Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week for games played December 7-15, sharing the honor with Jaylen Morris of Molloy College. The announcement was made this afternoon from conference headquarters in Central Islip, N.Y. via the league's
weekly men's basketball report.
Dyck averaged 26 points per game, helping Daemen (2-4, 0-1 ECC) go 1-1 for the week. The 6-foot-5 senior shot 54-percent from the field (19-for-35) while adding 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
In an 88-79 non-conference win over Edinboro University on Saturday, Dyck pumped in 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field, including 2-for-3 from three-point range. He personally scored 11-straight points midway through the first half, helping erase an early 17-10 deficit against the Fighting Scots, who entered the contest ranked No. 7 in the D2SIDA Atlantic Region poll.
Daemen would suffer an 89-84 loss Sunday in its ECC opener against University of the District of Columbia, but Dyck was magnificent in defeat, flirting with a triple-double as he posted 26 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. It was Dyck's first double-double of the season, and the third of his Daemen career.
The pair of 26-point outings gives Dyck four games of 20 or more points this season, and he now leads all ECC players in scoring at 20.5 points per game. He's doing damage from the free throw line, ranking fourth in the league in made free throws (30) despite Daemen playing the least amount of games in the league to date. Dyck also ranks ninth in the league in both field goal percentage (52.6-percent) and three-point field goal percentage (40.7-percent).
The announcement today marked Dyck's first ECC Player of the Week selection since joining the Daemen roster for the 2014-15 season. He's the second Daemen player to earn the weekly accolade this season, joining redshirt-junior forward
Arif Mehmetaj (Jamaica, N.Y./SUNY Delhi) who was the first selection this season,
earning the honor for games played November 9-15.
Molloy's Morris, a native of Amherst, N.Y., averaged 25.5 points while helping the Lions to a 1-1 record last week to share Player of the Week honors with Dyck.
Dyck and the Wildcats return to ECC play by visiting Dowling College (Friday, December 18) and University of Bridgeport (Sunday, December 20) to closeout their December slate.
