WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's tennis team suffered an 8-1 defeat to Queens College tonight at Miller Tennis Center. The Knights snapped a two-match losing streak and improved to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the East Coast Conference. Daemen dropped to 5-11 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Queens opened the match by taking all three doubles matches. Sharvill Nawghare and Gabriel Mendez held off juniors Gregory Lowe (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and Joey Gentile (East Amherst, N.Y./Niagara University) in a very competitive match at No. 1 doubles (9-7), while Ryan Frankel and Federico Toscano posted an 8-4 victory over sophomore Adam Kerr (Penfield, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) and freshman Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) at No. 2 doubles.
Nawghare posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Gentile at No. 1 singles, before Lowe earned Daemen's lone point of the match with a win over Lucas Martinez at No. 2 singles. The win improved Lowe's overall singles record to 6-9 on the year.
Daemen returns to action tomorrow when it hosts St. Thomas Aquinas College in an ECC match.
