AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College volleyball player
Katie McKrell (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) has been named the East Coast Conference Setter of the Week for the competitions held September 21-27.
McKrell, a 5-foot-8 sophomore, helped Daemen to a split of its two matches last week, totaling 67 assists and avaeraging 11.2 assists per set for the week.
McKrell opened the week by notching 35 assists in Daemen's 3-0 road win at Mercy College on Saturday, September 26. Â Her performance helped the Wildcats to its first-ever road win in the all-time series versus the Mavericks, and also the program's first win in an ECC opener since joining the league back in 2013.
McKrell added 32 assists, six digs and and a season-high two blocks in a three-set loss to Bentley University in their closing action of Saturday's tri-match at Mercy. Â Despite the loss, McKrell has now totaled more than 30 assists in eight of Daemen's last nine outings, helping the Wildcats to a 5-4 record in that span.
With 417 total assists so far this season, McKrell ranks second in the ECC. Â Her 9.48 assists per set currently ranks third in the league as well.
This marks the second time this season, and the third time in her career, that McKrell has been named ECC Setter of the Week. Â She picked up the weekly accolade for matches played
September 8-13 earlier this season, and also for the period of
September 22-28, 2014.
McKrell leads Daemen into non-conference action tonight where the Wildcats put their 6-7 overall record on the line
versus Edinboro University at EU's McComb Field House.Â
