AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College Head Tennis Coach
Stephen Beatty announced today the signing of
Jorge Arias (Santiago, Chile/American British School) to a National Letter of Intent. The 5-foot-9 Arias will join the program and begin competing for the men's tennis team in the upcoming Spring 2016 semester.
"We are excited to bring Jorge on this semester," Beatty said. "Jorge is a talented player from Chile and will add depth to our team this year. He will be a valuable asset to our team as we continue to build our roster to be competitive in the East Coast Conference."
Arias will be an immediate asset to the team this spring. Beatty was looking to add a player after seeing a couple members of the team suffer injuries during the Fall 2015 semester. The status of those players moving forward this spring is still to be determined, but Arias' arrival figures to lengthen the roster, giving Beatty and the Wildcats another viable option in the lineup.
"I chose to attend Daemen College because I think it is the College that best suits me," Arias said.
Arias becomes the third South American native on the current men's tennis roster. He joins fellow freshman
David Gonzalez Villegas (Pereira, Colombia/Liceo Frances de Pereira) and sophomore
Roberto Zambrano (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Broward College).
The Wildcats went 1-2 in dual matches during the non-championship segment of their 2015-16 season last fall. Their schedule resumes on February 6 when they play host to Elmira College at 12:30 p.m. at Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville, N.Y.
