OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Senior guard/forward
Torrence Dyck (Rochester, N.Y./San Jacinto College) hit 13-of-22 field goal attempts, including four three-pointers, as part of his 30-point effort to lead the Daemen College men's basketball team to an 83-67 victory over N.Y. Institute of Technology in an East Coast Conference matchup today at Recreation Hall.
With the win today, Daemen has now won four consecutive ballgames to improve to 9-6 overall and 5-3 in ECC play. The host Bears, bidding for their second win in an many games, fell to 2-14 overall and 1-8 in the league.
Daemen scored the first seven points of the game, including five by Dyck, and never looked back. Â The Wildcats would lead for the entireity of the game, picking up their first-ever road win in the all-time series with NYIT in the process.
Dyck, the league's leading scorer, continued his high-scoring streak of late. Â Today's performance gives Dyck his third 30-point game in the last eight days, and he's now averaged 29.8 points per game in Daemen's last five outings. Â For the season, he's atop the ECC scoring category at 23.5 points per game.

Arif Mehmetaj (Jamaica, N.Y./SUNY Delhi) chipped in with his fourth double-double of the season (19 points, 12 rebounds), while sophomore guard
Nick Petrucelli went into double-figures (11 points) for the fourth-straight game, and for the sixth time in the last nine contests, while also adding eight boards.
NYIT's Khalif Chaplin, who scored a career-high 29 points in their Friday night win over Roberts Wesleyan College, went for a team-high 19 points today. Â Forward Jerrel Green went 7-for-8 from the field and totaled 15 points, five rebounds and four blocks for the Bears.
Daemen led by as many as 14 points in the first half, and took an 11-point lead (38-27) into halftime. Â
In the second half, NYIT used a 13-2 spurt to draw within four points. Â The Bears got two three-pointers by Maksis Uskans and one from Chaplin in the spurt, capping the run on a dunk by Greeen at the 12:38 mark to make the count 53-49 in Daemen's favor.
But, Daemen responded by scoring the next nine points, including seven by Dyck, to re-establish a double-figure lead. Â His layup at the 8:34 mark put the Wildcats ahead by 13 (62-49). Â
NYIT never seriously threatened to climb back into it from there on out as the Daemen lead ballooned to as many as 22 points late in the game.
Daemen knocked down 10-of-25 three-point attempts and enjoyed a 50-31 in rebounding for the game.
The Wildcats bring their ECC winning streak home to play host to Molloy College this Friday, January 22.
