Men's Basketball Evens Record With Win Over Felician

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - Sophomore guard Nick Petrucelli (Hicksville, N.Y./Thomasville Prep) went 5-for-6 from three-point range and posted a career-high 20 points today to lead the Daemen College men's basketball team to a 94-71 victory over Felician University to wrap up both teams' participation in the 10th Annual James Clancy Memorial Tournament hosted by Dominican College at the Hennessy Center.

Today's win, the second in as many days for Daemen, evens the Wildcats' overall record at 5-5 this season.  Daemen was a 69-60 winner in their opening game of the tournament yesterday versus tourney host Dominican.  Felician, an affiliate of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, sufferered its second loss of the weekend to fall to 4-8 overall.

Petrucelli, who entered the starting lineup six games ago, connected on 7-of-11 field goal attempts en route to the highest scoring game of his career.  The 6-foot-3 sophomore matched his entire three-point field-goal output from his rookie season today, and his shooting prowess marked just the second game of his career with multiple three-point baskets.

Senior guard/forward Torrence Dyck (Rochester, N.Y./San Jacinto College) tossed in 17 points in the win, while redshirt-junior Jesse Lalka (Tonawanda, N.Y./Tonawanda) came off the bench to post 13 points, including 3-for-5 shooting from three-point range,  Arif Mehmetaj (Jamaica, N.Y./SUNY Delhi) chipped in 11 points to aide the Wildcats' offense.

Felician's Marko Kozul posted a game-high 26 points and Kennedy Chukwuocha added 16, but no other Golden Falcon managed more than seven points.

Sparked by a three-pointer from freshman guard Darius Garvin (Elmira, N.Y./Notre Dame), Daemen used a 10-0 run midway through the first half to seize control.  Back-to-back-to-back buckets by Dyck put the Wildcats ahead by 13 (28-15) and Daemen would never look back.

After leading 45-32 at halftime, Daemen would maintain a double-figure lead for the first 14 minutes of the second half.  A three-point play by Chukwuocha at the 6:03 mark would cut the Daemen lead to just nine (75-66), but the Wildcats responded with a 12-0 run to erase any thoughts of a comeback for the Golden Falcons.  Lalka hit a pair of jumpers in the run, including a three-pointer, and junior guard Jaleo Wilkes (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Polk State College) hit a jumper and a pair of free throws.  Felician would get no closer than 18 points for the remainder of the contest.

The Wildcats knocked down a season-high 14 three-pointers today.  It was Daemen's first game with at least 10 triples since an 89-86 loss to Holy Family University on November 14.

Daemen also held a 28-18 advantage in points in the paint today.

The win moved Daemen to 3-1 this season, and 7-3 since the 2013-14 season, against CACC opponents.

Daemen returns to East Coast Conference play by hosting Saint Thomas Aquinas College this coming Thursday, January 7 at Lumsden Gymnasium for an 8 p.m. tip-off
