Ashley Drzymala Earns ECC Player Of The Week Award

AMHERST, N.Y. – Daemen College volleyball player Ashley Drzymala (West Seneca, N.Y. / St. Mary's of Lancaster) has been named the East Coast Conference Player of the Week for the competitions held October 24-October 30.  The announcement was made via the league's weekly report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in Central Islip, N.Y.

Drzymala, a 5-foot-10 sophomore outside hitter, was named the 2015 ECC Rookie of the Year and awarded ECC Rookie of the Week four times last season.  This is the first ECC Player of the Week selection in her career.

Ashley helped Daemen earn three wins last week, improving the Wildcats to 19-6 overall and 10-1 in the conference.  The Wildcats currently sit at the top of the conference after last week's contests.  Daemen defeated conference opponent Long Island University Post in an epic five-set battle, clinching its first-ever ECC postseason berth at the NCAA Division II level.  They went on to win a pair of straight-set wins over host N.Y. Institute of Technology and non-league Southern Connecticut State University.  The Wildcats' current 11-match win streak is tied for the fifth-longest streak in the country among NCAA Division II teams.  It is Daemen's first double-digit streak since posting 15-straight wins during the 2013 season.

Against the Pioneers from Post, Drzymala paced the Wildcats with a team-high 17 kills, she added 11 digs and two blocks in the win.  In the victory over league favorite NYIT, Ashley posted 12 kills and 12 digs.  Wrapping up a superb weekend, Drzymala had a match-high six service aces and 13 digs, while adding 10 kills to defeat Southern Connecticut.  She finished the weekend with three double-doubles, bringing her season total to 13.  Ashley has registered a double-double in the last four matches, and has gathered a career total of 26.

During the 11-match win streak, she is averaging 13.8 kills and 10.5 digs per match.  Ashley has averaged 20 kills in four career matches, along with 13.5 digs.  The Wildcats are 3-1 in those contests.

Drzymala's team-high 330 kills are good for a second place standing in the conference.  She ranks fourth in the conference in kills per set (3.40) and in total attack attempts (822).  Ashley has registered a team-high 41 service aces, which puts her second in the ECC.  Additionally, she ranks 11th in digs (251) and 13th in hitting percentage (.226) among all players in the league.

Drzymala and the Wildcats return to league play Saturday, November 5, playing host to four-time defending ECC champion University of Bridgeport.  Currently, the Purple Knights are in second place behind the Wildcats with an 8-2 conference record.
