Drzymala Earns First-Team All-Region Honors

5-Foot-10 Sophomore Has Led Daemen To Its First NCAA Tournament Berth

AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College volleyball player Ashley Drzymala (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) has been named to the 2016 NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (CCA) All-East Region First Team.  The 5-foot-10 sophomore outside hitter was previously named a first-team All-East Coast Conference selection and the 2016 ECC Player of the Year.  Today's announcement makes Drzymala the first Daemen player to earn All-Region honors at the NCAA Division II level.

Drzymala has led Daemen to a 23-7 overall record, a 13-1 mark in East Coast Conference play, the ECC regular season championship, and the program's first-ever berth in the NCAA tournament.

The Daemen sophomore has been the Wildcats' offensive catalyst all season long, while also contributing defensively.  She leads the team in kills (399), kills per set (3.53), service aces (48) and service aces per set (0.42).  Defensively, Drzymala has registered career-highs of 302 digs and 34 blocks.  Her versatility has helped her produce 15 double-doubles this season.

In the region, Drzymala presently ranks 10th in total kills and 14th in kills per set.  She was joined on the D2CCA All-East Region First Team by Diva Rivas-Reyes and Mercy Rivera of American International College, Melissa Rigo of Adelphi University, Rachel Guida and Allison Fowler of N.Y. Institute of Technology, and Skylar German of Post University.  German, who has posted 376 kills with a .381 hitting percentage, was named the D2CCA East Region Player of the Year.

Drzymala and the Wildcats have drawn the No. 2 seed in the East Regional portion of the 2016 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship, and they'll face German and No. 7 Post in the first round on Thursday, December 1 at 7:30 p.m.  Daemen's Lumsden Gymnasium will serve as the site of the East Regional, hosting seven matches over three days this week (Dec. 1-3).  Get a complete tournament preview by clicking here.
