For Communications Spring Schedule Set For Women's Tennis Wildcats' 2016-17 Schedule Resumes On February 17 AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's tennis team will resume its 2016-17 season in mid-February as head coach Stephen Beatty announced the spring semester portion of his team's schedule today. A total of seven matches will be played between February 17 and March 16, three of which come at Miller Tennis Center, the Wildcats' indoor venue, during the month of February. The Wildcats, who went 6-11 overall during the fall season, will enter the spring needing three wins to set a new team record for wins in a season. Beatty, who been with the program since its inception (2012-13) including one year as an assistant, has led the Wildcats to a team-record eight wins in each of the last three seasons. Daemen kicks things off by hosting Salem International University on Friday, February 17 at MTC where the Wildcats are 6-2 in February matches during the last two seasons. It'll be the first-ever meeting on the tennis court between the Wildcats and Tigers. SIU is in just its second season as an intercollegiate program; they went 5-18 last season. One week later (February 24), Davis and Elkins College visits MTC to take on Daemen. The Wildcats and Senators met for the first time last season with the latter scoring a 6-3 win in their home state of West Virginia. The following day (February 25), Daemen treks east to Syracuse where they'll renew their rivalry with Le Moyne College. The Dolphins went 8-7 during the fall season, incluindg a 7-5 mark in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Wildcats will be looking for their first win in the all-time series with the Dolphins (0-3). A busy, three-match weekend concludes with Daemen hosting Edinboro University on February 26. The Fighting Scots will be making their first-ever trip to MTC, and their first trip to Western New York to face Daemen since April 14, 2014. That sets the stage for the Wildcats' to close out their season with a combined three matches over four days in a mid-March trip to the states of Indiana and Kentucky. The trip opens with Daemen facing Division III Franklin College on March 13. The Grizzlies are coming off a 15-3 campaign in 2015-16. Beatty's squad jumps back to Division II competition by facing the University of Southern Indiana on March 15, before closing at Bellarmine University on March 16. Both USI and BU were qualifiers for the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament last season. "I'm excited to get the spring season underway," Beatty said. "We have a couple of seniors in Karli Hollins, Hayle Scanlan and Shaylah Iverson who will be looking to close out their careers strong, and we're hoping to see some continued development from the rest of the ladies in the program. With the three seniors graduating this year, there will be an opportunity for others to step up next season, and that process really starts this spring." Scanlan led the team with 10 singles wins during the fall season. She is already the program's all-time leader in both singles (43) and doubles (42) wins, and she'll have an opportunity to set the single season mark for singles wins this spring. That record is shared by Hollins and junior Gretchen Ringler who each posted 13 wins during the 2015-16 and 2014-15 seasons, respectively.
