HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Daemen College men's tennis team saw its modest two-match winning streak end today, falling to Hillsdale College 9-0 in a non-conference match at the Margot V. Biermann Center.
The loss this afternoon moves Daemen to 2-3 this season. Â It was just the Wildcats' first road match in the spring portion of their 2015-16 schedule, and the team's first-ever match in the state of Michigan. Â Hillsdale moves ot 1-1 overall as the Chargers pick up their first dual-match victory of the season. Â HC is sponsoring a varsity men's tennis team for the first time in more than a decade, and they compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Hillsdale swept through the three doubles matches to open today's competition, winning close contests in the No. 2 and 3 slots, both of which ended with 8-5 set scores.  John  Ciraci and Gianpiero Placidi bested Daemen's
John LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and
Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) in the No. 2 slot. Â It was Jerry Hewitt and Zach Rabitoy winning for HC in the No. 3 slot over the Wildcats'
Andrew LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and
Adam Kerr (Penfield, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit).
In singles competition, Justin Hyman and Dugan Delp joined Ciraci, Placidi, Hewitt and Rabitoy as double-point winners for HC. Â Daemen's best opportunity to avoid the shutout came in the No. 4 slot, but senior
Gregory Lowe (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) fell to Ciraci, 6-3, 6-2.
Daemen closes out its trip to the Wolverine State by visiting GLIAC powerhouse Grand Valley State University tomorrow morning (8 a.m.).
