Daemen's Dyck Named Second-Team All-Region

AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College men's basketball player Torrence Dyck (Rochester, N.Y./San Jacinto College) has been selected to the 2015-16 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-East Region Second Team following a vote by sports information professionals from institutions and conference offices in the region.

Dyck, a 6-foot-5 senior guard/forward, led Daemen to a 19-10 record this season, advancing to the East Coast Conference Tournament finals during the Wildcats' first-ever postseason appearance at the NCAA Division II level.  For the season, Dyck led the ECC and ranked fifth in the region in scoring at 21.9 points while adding 6.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.  He had previously been named a first-team All-ECC honoree, the second-straight season he had earned that distinction, and was also selected to the ECC all-tournament team.  With today's announcement, he becomes the second Daemen player in as many years to earn All-Region honors, joining former Wildcat great Gerald Beverly who was a first-team selection last season.

Dyck scored in double figures in all but one game this season, posting 18 games of 20 or more points and four 30-point outings.  His seven double-doubles tied for the team lead with junior forward Arif Mehmetaj (Jamaica, N.Y./SUNY Delhi).

Dyck opened the season by being named to the all-tournament team at Daemen's home tournament, the ECC-CACC Challenge.  He scored 29 points on 10-of-13 shooting in the Wildcats' season-opening victory over Wilmington University (Del.), and followed up the next day with 23 points in a four-point loss to Holy Family University, the eventual Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champions.

A 27-point performance in a home loss to St. Thomas Aquinas College on January 7 kick-started a string of nine-straight 20-point games for Dyck.  On January 9, he netted 30 points, including 5-of-6 shooting from three-point range, in a home-court victory over Mercy College which began the Wildcats' season-best nine-game winning streak, vaulting them into the D2SIDA East Region media poll for the first time on February 8.  During the winning streak, Dyck averaged 26.3 points per game.

Dyck scored 18 of his career-high 35 points in the final six minutes of Daemen's incredible come-from-behind victory at Roberts Wesleyan College on January 12.  He scored a driving layup with four seconds remaining to complete the comeback, as Daemen rallied from a 22-point second-half deficit to win 98-96.

Dyck was a two-time ECC Player of the Week this season, and his performance in the win at RWC spurred him on to Division II National Player of the Week honors as dubbed by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.

In the ECC Tournament, Dyck scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Daemen past Mercy College in the semifinal round with a 103-102 overtime victory.  He scored 22 points and nabbed six boards in the tournament finals where Daemen's season ended with a loss to top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas.

Dyck concluded his career as Daemen's all-time record holder for points per game, averaging 20.7 points in 51 career games.  He totaled 1,056 points, becoming just the fourth two-year player in team history to surpass the 1,000-point milestone, and the first since Russell John who played from 1990-92.  His 612 total points this season were the fifth most in team history for a single year.
