Daemen Partnering With First Niagara On Summer Track Series

Area Runners Encouraged To Partake In Series Which Will Take Place Each Thursday In July

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College Athletic Department will partner with First Niagara, a leader in the banking industry, to bring the 2016 Summer Track Series to life for area runners, Director of Athletics Bridget Niland announced today.  The 2016 Summer Track Series is slated to occur each Thursday evening during the month of July at Sweet Home High School in Amherst.

"Daemen Athletics is excited to be partnering with First Niagara to bring back a Summer Track Series to Western New York," Niland said.  "Many Western New York runners learned the sport through the summer track meet series of the 1980's and 1990's held at Parker Field.  We hope that the rebirth of this idea will create a summer activity for runners of all ages and a nice change-up to the traditional road races that have become popular in recent years.  In addition to the support of First Niagara, we sincerely appreciate the hospitality of the Sweet Home Central School District in providing us a top-notch venue to host this series."

First Niagara's support of the Summer Track Series came through its Regional Community Sponsorships program which offers monetary aide for events and other special fundraising and awareness-building event-related activities.

"We at First Niagara are very proud to partner with Daemen College on the Summer Track Series to promote health and wellness opportunities for Western New Yorkers," said First Niagara's Buford Sears, Regional President, Western New York.  "This program provides a unique setting for runners of all ages to compete and stay active in our community."

Meets are slated for July 7, July 14, July 21 and July 28 and each one is open to any and all interested participants, regardless of age or running experience.  Events include a one-mile run, two-mile run, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 800-meter run and a 4x400-meter relay race.  There's also a 100-meter dash for kids as well.  Participants will have the opportunity to compete for prizes courtesy of Runner's Roost in the "Premier Event of the Night" which will change weekly.

A registration fee of $10 per participant per night will allow each runner to compete in as many of the night's races as desired.  Registration will be done on a walk-up basis each week, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the start time slated for 6:15 p.m.
