AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach
Paul Lagno announced the signing of Josh Bodnar (Fillmore, N.Y./Fillmore) to a National Letter of Intent today. Bodnar will enroll in classes beginning in the upcoming Fall 2016 semester.
"Josh is going to be a huge addition for us next year, especially with the loss of
Jeremy Rushok to graduation," Lagno said. "He is already training at a high level, and I expect him to transition to the collegiate distance much better than the average freshman. He's had some great coaching at the high school level, and is very knowledgeable about the sport."
Bodnar comes to Daemen after competing for the Fillmore Central High School track and field team since he was in eighth grade, earning three team M.V.P. awards and three league M.V.P. awards as well. A two-time honorable-mention All-Greater Rochester selection in track and field, Bodnar leaves Fillmore as the school's all-time record-holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, 1,600-meter run and 3,200-meter run.
In addition to his time on the track, Bodnar earned four varsity letters on the pitch competing for the Eagles' soccer team. He'll forego soccer in lieu of joining the Wildcats' cross country team in the fall, in addition to continuing his track and field career.
A National Honor Society member and N.Y. State Scholar-Athlete, Bodnar will major in Athletic Training at Daemen.
