2016-17 Schedule Set For Women's Bowling

Wildcats Begin Season In Mid-October At Kutztown Tournament

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's bowling team will begin its second season as a varsity sport in mid-October, head coach Jennifer Kinyon announced today.  All told, the Wildcats' 2016-17 schedule includes two tournaments, two home-and-home series and the program's first-ever meeting with Roberts Wesleyan College, all in preparation for the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament.

"I am really excited about the expansion of our schedule from our inaugural season last year," said Kinyon.  "There will be more of a variety of locations and teams we will face, which should provide the young ladies with a more diverse NCAA collegiate bowling experience."

The season gets underway when the Wildcats partake in the Bud Whitman Memorial Tournament hosted by Kutztown University at Berks Lanes in Reading, Pa. on October 15-16.  The two-day event will feature 10 matches for tournament participants.  Matchups, start times and full tournament details will be released at a later date.

Daemen makes its home debut at Transit Lanes on October 18 with a three-match set vesus crosstown rival Medaille College.  The teams met seven times last year with Medaille edging the Wildcats 4-3 in the series.

The following week, another familiar opponent, Thiel College, makes the trek to Transit Lanes for three matches on October 25.  The Wildcats and Tomcats matched up eight times last season, with Daemen scoring three wins in the series, all of which came at home in mid-November.

On November 13 at Transit Lanes, the Wildcats meet up with the afore-mentioned Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan, a first-year program.  The meeting will prove as an extension of the "Thruway Rivalry" between Daemen and RWC, longtime adversaries in numerous other sports.

The fall portion of Daemen's 2016-17 schedule comes to an end with Daemen hitting the road to face Thiel on November 19.

The season resumes in early February when Daemen makes the short drive to Classic Lanes in Kenmore, N.Y. to renew their series with Medaille.  The Wildcats went 2-1 at Classic Lanes last season.

Daemen treks to Long Island for the Molloy Baker Tournament on February 25.  Like the Bud Whitman Memorial, matchups and tournament info for the Molloy Baker Tournament will be announced at a later date.  While in the area, on February 26, Daemen will lock up with Molloy for a two-match set.

That sets the stage for the ECC Championship Tournament which takes place over three days from March 24-26 in Keene, N.H.  The league, which features Daemen and Molloy, as well as associate members Adelphi University, Felician College, Franklin Pierce University, and Kutztown, grew by four for this coming year by picking up new programs at Roberts Wesleyan and Long Island University Post as well as new associate members Lincoln Memorial University and Salem International University.  The ECC Championship Tournament will feature a round-robin format before giving way to tournament action.  Adelphi is the defending league champion.

Daemen went 14-31 overall in its inaugural season last year.  Kinyon's 2016-17 roster features returning starters Kaitlyn O'Hara (Clarence Center, N.Y./Clarence) and Julie Mitchell (Alden, N.Y./Alden).
