Amy Trabert finished 24th overall to lead Daemen today Women's Cross Country 9/17/2016 6:17:00 PM Wildcats Run To 12th Place Finish In Rochester ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Junior Amy Trabert (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) and senior Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) each ran to top-30 finishes individually to lead the Daemen College women's cross country team to a 12th-place showing (out of 27 competing teams) in the team standings today at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational. The 6K race was held at Genesee Valley Park near the convergence of Red Creek, the Genesee River and the New York State Barge Canal. Daemen accumulated 319 points in the team standings with their five scorers placing between 24th and 133rd. Division I Cornell University dominated the race, compiling just 23 points while placing its five scorers in the top seven finishers. The Big Red sat comfortably ahead of their crosstown brethren Ithaca College, who finished in second place with 103 points, and third-place finisher Oberlin College (116 points). Despite the dominance of Cornell, it was Ithaca's Taryn Cordani who set the pace, winning the race with a time of 21:16.0. Trabert paced the Wildcats by finishing 24th with a time of 22:59.2, beating her teammate Donahue in competiton for the first time in her career. It was the second straight race that Trabert has come in as the Wildcats' top finisher. She had previously won the Le Moyne Alumni Short Course Invitational, setting the 4K course record (16:20.51) in Daemen's season-opening meet back on September 3. Donahue, who became the Wildcats' first-ever NCAA Division II National Championships qualifier last year, made her season debut today, finishing 30th with a time of 23:10.7. It marked just the third time in her career that she did not come in as Daemen's top finisher, having done so in 18 of 20 races in her career coming into today. Rounding out the Wildcats' scorers today were newcomers Rebekah Zee (East Aurora, N.Y./Slippery Rock University) and Leana Wiebelt (East Setauket, N.Y./Suffolk County CC) and veteran Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama). Zee came in 119th place with a time of 24:59.5. She was followed by Wiebelt with a time of 25:06.4 to finish 132nd, and Denton in 133rd place with a time of 25:13.5. Daemen raced without senior Hannah Rice (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) today. Rice, who had finished third overall in the Wildcats' opener at Le Moyne, has never finished outside the team's top-fve finishers in 18 career races. Daemen will return to Rochester next Saturday, September 24 for the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College.
