Dolegowski Named ECC Rookie Of The Week

AMHERST, N.Y- Daemen College volleyball player Bailey Dolegowski (Marilla, N.Y./ St. Mary's of Lancaster) has been named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for the competitions held August 29-September 5.  The announcement was made via the league's weekly report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in Central Islip, N.Y.
 
Dolegowski, a 5-foot-8 freshman, helped Daemen to three wins in four matches at the Ram Fest, a multi-team tournament hosted by West Chester University, totaling 145 assists and 43 digs for the weekend.
 
Dolegowski began her collegiate career with 41 assists and 10 digs for a career-first double-double in Daemen's season opening loss to the tournament hosts.  Daemen lost in straight sets to the Rams (18-25, 24-26, 24-26)  before rallying to a commanding 3-0 victory over Shaw University (25-7. 25-17, 25-12).
 
Dolegowski dished out a 39 helpers and tallied 20 digs for her second double-double of the season in the Wildcats 3-1 defeat over Philadelphia University.   She also contributed four service aces in Daemen capturing the win (22-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-22). 
 
The Wildcats won the final match of the weekend in thrilling fashion with a five-set triumph over Millersville University (25-17, 22-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-12).  Daemen battled back after dropping the second and third sets to dominate in nearly every statistical category.  Dolegowski had a crucial service ace in the fourth set to impede the Marauders momentum and force a fifth and final set.  Dolegowski finished the match with a career-best 58 assists while digging 12 balls for her third career double-double. 
 
Dolegowski's 10.37 assists per set average ranks first in the ECC after the opening weekend of play.  Her 145 assists and seven services aces lists her second and third in the conference, respectively. 
 
Dolegowski leads Daemen into non-conference action this weekend in the 2016 Daemen College/Hyatt Place Volleyball Classic taking place at Lumsden Gymnasium September 9-11.  The Wildcats take on Slippery Rock University at 1:00 p.m. followed by the Lake Erie Storm at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
