Wicker Named ECC Volleyball Rookie Of The Week

AMHERST, N.Y. – Freshman libero Georgia Wicker (Woodstock, Ill. / Woodstock) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week for matches played Oct. 9-15.  The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.
 
Wicker, a five-foot-three defensive specialist, helped the Wildcats earn a pair of conference matches last week, sweeping Molloy in straight sets followed by a four-set victory over Queens.  With the two weekend victories, Daemen improved to 9-10 overall and 5-2 in the conference. Daemen has won eight of their last eleven matches, and 16 of their last 18 ECC regular season matches dating back to last season.
 
Against the Lions, Wicker registered 19 of the team's 45 digs in just three sets of action.  Daemen's defense, led by Wicker, held Molloy to their lowest attack percentage of the season thus far, posting a .074 kill percentage. 
 
Wicker posted a career-high 29 digs in the Wildcats four-set stampede (21-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-16) over the visiting Knights.  This marked the fourth time Wicker has tallied more than 20 kills in a game.  She also added two service aces and one assist in the Daemen victory.  With her 48 total digs on the weekend, she averaged 6.86 digs per set.
 
Overall, Wicker has recorded double-figure digs in 15 of the 19 possible matches thus far.  She leads Daemen with 289 total digs and a 4.13 digs per set average, and ranks fourth and third in the ECC in those respective categories.  The rookie has committed only 12 serve receive errors in 70 sets of action.
 
Wicker and the rest of the Wildcats head into the second portion of their conference schedule this weekend in a three-way tie for second place in the ECC standings.  The Wildcats first travel to Bridgeport on Saturday, October 21 for a 12:00 p.m. match followed by another league contest against Mercy on Sunday, October 22 at 1:00 p.m.
