Keem Named ECC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week

AMHERST, N.Y. - Freshman forward/defender Noah Keem (Amherst, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week for games played from September 25 through October 1. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

Keem played an integral role in helping Daemen to a 1-1 record last week. The Wildcats snapped a four-game slide with a 4-0 non-league road win at Shepherd University last Monday, Sept. 25, before suffering a 5-1 loss in their return to ECC play Saturday, Sept. 30 at N.Y. Institute of Technology. The recent results have Daemen sitting at 3-7 overall and 0-3 in ECC play this season.

Keem registered the first goal and assist of his career in Monday's defeat of Shepherd which featured four goals by four different Wildcat freshmen, all in a 15-minute span during the first half of play. Keem first assisted on Kristian Aadnoy's (Gjerdrum, Norway) tally in the 27th minute which made the score 2-0. a short time later, Keem scored off a feed from classmate Craig Buchanan (Glasgow, Scotland) in the 35th minute to put the Wildcats ahead by four, in what turned out to be the team's third win

Later in the week, Keem registered Daemen's lone goal in the loss at NYIT. He took a pass from fellow freshman Aiden Tolley (Pittsford, N.Y.) and got behind the NYIT defense, ultimately side-stepping goalkeeper Jonathan Rico and kicking the ball into a wide open goal in the 88th minute.

Keem became the fourth Daemen player, and the third freshman, to score goals in back-to-back games this season. Keem has appeared in and started nine of the team's 10 games this season, and ranks fourth on the team with five points. He is one of 10 freshmen to record at least one point for the Wildcat so far this season.

Keem becomes just the fourth Daemen player to garner any of the league's weekly awards, joining teammate Aadnoy (Rookie of the Week: Sept. 4-10, 2017), Ali Shawish (Rookie of the Week: Oct. 3-10, 2016) and Matt Daddario (Co-Defensive Player of the Week: Sept. 22-28, 2014). The two weekly accolades this season are the most that Daemen has earned since joining the league in 2013.

Keem leads Daemen into a pair of league games this week as the Wildcats visit longtime rival Roberts Wesleyan College (Wednesday, Oct. 4) and host Mercy College (Saturday, Oct. 7).
