The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y. Heritz, a 6-foot middle blocker, helped the Wildcats split a pair of conference road matches last weekend, falling to Bridgeport in three-sets before bouncing back with a straight-set sweep over Mercy College. She averaged 3.40 kills per set and finished with a .359 hitting percentage over the weekend. After the two contests, Daemen is now 10-11 overall and 6-3 in the East Coast Conference. Daemen has won 17 of their last 20 ECC regular season matches dating back to last season, and nine of their last 13 matches overall. Against the Purple Knights, Heritz recorded 6 kills, while adding two blocks and two digs in the Wildcat loss (19-25, 21-25, 10-25). While the Wildcat squad only registered a .184 hitting percentage as a whole, Heritz posted a .267 attack percentage. Heritz hammered down 11 kills in the Wildcats three-set stampede (25-15, 25-22, 25-16) over the host Mavericks. She posted an impressive .417 attack percentage, only committing one error in 24 total attacks. Heritz was only one of two players between both squads to register double-figure kills. Overall, Heritz has posted double-digit kills in seven matches thus far. Her .238 hitting percentage ranks first on the Daemen squad and tenth among all ECC leaders. She is tied for the top spot in blocks on the squad with 40, which ranks 12th overall in the conference. Heritz has registered 157 total kills, the most by a freshman on the Wildcat crew and fourth overall. This is Heritz's second Rookie of the Week honor as she earned her first award in mid-September. This award also marks the second-straight week a Daemen player has been selected as the Rookie of the Week. Freshman standout libero Georgia Wicker was last week's selection. Heritz and the rest of the Wildcats gear up for a rematch of the 2016 East Region Finals on Saturday, October 28 when they host American International College in a non-conference contest at 3:30. Daemen then faces off against longtime rival Roberts Wesleyan for the second time this season at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
