Ballou Earns Academic All-District Honors

AMHERST, N.Y. - Sophomore Meghan Ballou (Eden, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® Volleyball Team which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Ballou is one of nine honorees from District 1 of NCAA Division II which includes student-athletes who compete for teams affiliated with the East Coast Conference, Northeast-10 Conference and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Ballou, a 6-foot outside hitter, helped a young Daemen team with just one senior achieve a fifth-place finish in the East Coast Conference standings this season, closing out the year with an 11-16 overall record and an even 7-7 conference mark. Ballou was the Wildcats' top offensive player as she led the team in total kills (303), kills per set (3.06) and total attacks (934), ranking among the league leaders in all three categories (7th in kills, 5th in kills per set, 5th in total attacks). She also added 251 digs and 29 blocks to the Daemen defensive effort this season.

To be considered for Academic All-District® honors, nominated student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, and they must have completed one full calendar year at their current institution while reaching sophomore athletic eligibility.

Joining Ballou on the CoSIDA Academic All-District® Team are Alexandra Harrington of Jefferson University, Katrina Janssen and Jessica Mitchell of Caldwell University, Rachel Londot of Long Island University Post, Megan Manierski of Adelphi University, Sheri Middleton of the University of Bridgeport, Danielle Vaiano of Pace University, and Anna Venard of Southern Connecticut State University. These student-athletes will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot with first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in December.

The Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams.
