Women's Volleyball 11/17/2017 1:40:00 PM Lea Sobieraski, Athletics Communications Graduate Assistant Ballou, Scanlan Earn Second-Team All-ECC Honors AMHERST, N.Y. – Daemen College women's volleyball players Meghan Ballou (Eden, N.Y.) and Courtney Scanlan (Ellicottville, N.Y.) were both named to the All-East Coast Conference second-team. The official announcement was made at the ECC tournament banquet this afternoon occurring at Molloy College, and was followed up with a press release form the conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y. Ballou and Scanlan were two of the 16 ECC student-athletes who earned All-ECC accolades following a vote of the league's eight head coaches. Ballou, a 6-foot outside hitter, had a stellar sophomore season for the Wildcats, leading the team in kills (303) and kills per set (3.06), while also ranking second in digs (253) and third in digs per set (2.54). She ended the regular season among the ECC leaders in kills per set (fifth), total attacks (fifth), kills (seventh), points (seventh) and points per set (seventh). Ballou appeared in 99 sets this season, playing in all 27 of the team's total matches. She racked up a team-high 11 double-doubles and recorded double-figure kills in 17 matches this season. Ballou notched a career-best 19 kills and career-high 20 digs in Daemen's 3-1 victory over Pace University on September 30. Scanlan, a 6-foot-1 redshirt junior outside hitter, made a profound impact in her second season as a Wildcat, proving to be one of the squad's top all-around contributors. Scanlan led the team in service aces (34) and service aces per set (.34), while also ranking second on the team in total kills (289) and kills per set (2.92), third in total blocks (30) and fourth in digs (221). She finished the regular season ranked among the ECC leaders in kills (eighth), kills per set (ninth), service aces (14th), and service aces per set (16th). Scanlan started in 23 of the squad's 27 total matches, while appearing in all 27 games and playing 99 overall sets. She posted seven double-doubles this season, four more than total last year and registered double-figure kills in 14 contests this season. Scanlan notched 20 or more digs in three matches in 2017, and registered a career-best 25 in Daemen's 3-1 loss to Clarion University. She nailed down a career-high 20 kills to lead the Daemen offense in a dramatic five-set loss to American International College. The efforts of Ballou and Scanlan helped the Wildcats to an 11-16 overall record, and a 7-7 mark in the ECC which placed them fifth in the final regular season standings. Losing just senior setter Katie McKrell (Webster, N.Y.), the Wildcats are set to return players responsible for 98 percent of their kills, 89 percent of their service aces and 89 percent of their digs from this past season. The other major awards announced by the ECC today included Player of the Year, Libero of the Year, Setter of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year. Junior outside hitter Rachel Londot of LIU Post was named the ECC Player of the year. NYIT's Allison Fowler earned her third-straight Setter of the Year honor. Lastly, three members of the co-regular season champions Molloy, were selected for ECC major accolades. Dakota O'Neill was named Libero of the Year and Kacey Affrunti was named the Rookie of the Year, while head coach Kevin DesLauriers was selected as the ECC Coach of the Year.
