Sischo Named ECC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week

AMHERST, N.Y. - Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) of the Daemen College men's basketball team has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for games played November 20-26. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

In Daemen's only game of the week, an 80-77 loss at Slippery Rock University on Sunday, Nov. 26, Sischo established new career-highs for points (24), rebounds (9), blocks (2), steals (2) and minutes played (28). The 6-foot-9 redshirt freshman center connected on 12-of-20 field goal attempts in the game.

Through the team's first five games this season, Sischo is averaging team-highs of 13.6 points and 5.8 rebounds while seeing just 16.8 minutes per game off the bench. He also leads the Wildcats (3-2 overall record) in free throw percentage (.857) and field goal percentage (.519).

Sischo presently ranks 11th among the ECC scoring leaders overall (first among freshman, first among players coming off the bench). He also leads the league in points per 40 minutes (32.4). 

Sischo, who was named to the all-tournament team at the ECC-CACC Challenge earlier this season, has scored in double figures in all but one game this season. He's the first Daemen freshman with four double-figure scoring games in the month of November since former Wildcat great Gerald Beverly did so in the 2011-12 season.

Sischo's Rookie of the Week selection is Daemen's first weekly accolade from the conference office this season. Since the start of the 2015-16 season, Daemen players have earned 11 of the 33 Rookie of the Week selections named by the conference. 

Sischo and the Wildcats are back in action Tuesday, Nov. 28 with a non-league bout vs. Edinboro University. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
