White Named ECC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications Women's Basketball | 12/18/2017 4:00:00 PM AMHERST, N.Y. - Caroline White (Fairport, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Basketball Co-Rookie of the Week for games played December 11-17, sharing the honor with Shalie Frierson from New York Institute of Technology. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y. White, a 5-foot-11 freshman forward, came off the bench to help Daemen (3-8, 1-2 ECC) to a split of two road games last week. The Wildcats snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 72-52 rout of Mercy College on Friday, December 15 before closing out the road trip with a 64-60 loss at the University of Bridgeport on Sunday, December 17. For the week, White averaged 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 47.8 percent from the field (11-for-23) and 50 percent from three-point range (5-for-10). In the win over Mercy, White scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half, leading Daemen to a double-figure lead (32-19) at the halftime intermission. For the game, she shot 6-for-12 from the field and 2-for-5 from long distance, and added a team-best seven rebounds in 21 minutes worth of work. It was White's first game scoring in double figures since netting 15 points in the Wildcats' season-opening 70-61 win over American International College on November 10. Against Bridgeport, White matched her career-high with 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting before fouling out. She did most of her damage from three-point range, establishing a new career-high for made three-point field goals with three (3-for-5 shooting from three-point range). After shooting just 4-for-22 from three-point range in the Wildcats' first seven games, White has rebounded to shoot 53.3 percent over the last four games (8-for-15), making multiple three-point shots in the last three. For the season, White has appeared in all 11 games (four starts) and is averaging 6.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. She ranks third on the team in total field goals (27) and three-point field goals (12). White's Rookie of the Week selection marks Daemen's first since teammate Sarah Saba (Lancaster, N.Y.) earned the accolade six times during the 2014-15 season. White and the Wildcats are back in action Friday, December 29 with a non-league road game vs. St. Anselm College.
