For Communications Fundraiser To Benefit Juvenile Diabetes Foundation A Success AMHERST, N.Y. - On Saturday, February 18, the Daemen College Athletic Department hosted a fundraising event in conjunction with a men's and women's basketball doubleheader which raised nearly $1,100 to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), a leading global organization which is focused on curing Type 1 Diabetes. The event was planned and conducted by the College's JDRF Committee: Brenda Rosen, student life office manager; Adriane Williams, associate director of academic advisement and first year initiatives; Don Phillips, director of physical plant; and Steve Chmielewski, grant administrator. Â A basket raffle was available in the Lumsden Gymnasium lobby, and 50/50 raffles were conducted inside the gymnasium itself as the games were being played on the court. Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease which prohibits the body from producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. Â The disease affects more than 29 million Americans, including one million children. Â The mission of JDRF is accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat Type 1 Diabetes and its complications.
