For Communications Steele Named ECC Rookie of the Week Daemen Freshman Picks Up Honor For Second Time This Season AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College bowler Rachel Steele (Rensselaer, N.Y./Columbia) has been named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for matches held February 27 through March 5. The official announcement came via the league's weekly report for bowling which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in Central Islip, N.Y. Steele, a 5-foot-3 freshman, helped the Wildcats complete a three-match sweep of Roberts Wesleyan College in their only competitions last week. The results push Daemen's record to 14-20 this season. Steele held a team-match scoring average of 162.5 over the first two Daemen wins over RWC which came by final pinfall scores of 765-639 and 749-658. She posted a round of 182 in the second match. Steele went on to post a 16.1 pin-per-frame average in the third and final match which used the Baker scoring system. The announcement today marked the second time this season that Steele has earned the weekly honor from the ECC. She was previously named the league's Rookie of the Week for October 10-16. In addition, red-shirt sophomore Kaitlyn O'Hara (Clarence Center, N.Y./Clarence) was named to the ECC weekly honor roll after posting a 193.0 team-match scoring average and a 16.9 Baker scoring average in the three Daemen wins last week. Steele, O'Hara and the Wildcats return to action at the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament which is slated for March 24-26 in Keene, N.H.
