Donahue Records Fastest 10,000 Meter Time In Division II This Season

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Senior Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) clocked the fastest NCAA Division II time in the 10,000-meter run this season, leading the Daemen women's track and field teams at today's Brockport Invitational hosted by the College at Brockport.

Donahue capped the event by posting a NCAA Division II best and school record-breaking time of 35:35.11 in the 10,000-meter run.  Donahue surpassed the previous top time of 35:36.72 to become the fastest athlete among all Division II contenders this season.  The time also bettered the provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Division II National Championships.  Donahue eclipsed her previous school-record time of 36:31.71 which she set at the Cardinal Last Chance Meet last May.  The 10,000-meter run provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Division II National Championships is 36:56.20, and my beating that mark Donahue has put herself in contention for an invitation to the national championships met which will take place at the end of May.  Teammate Amy Trabert (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) finished second behind Donahue with a time of 37:48.78, nearly three minutes faster than the third place finisher.

For the third second straight week, sophomore Sam Carro (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) topped her previous school record in the 100-meter hurdles, with a record breaking time of 15.73.  Carro finished third out of 25 entrants, eclipsing her previous time of 15.99 which she set at last weekend's ROC City Classic.

Sophomore Sydney McDonough (Alfred, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central) also got in the Daemen record books for the second consecutive week for her performance in the 400-meter dash.  McDonough finished fourth out of 23 competitors with a record breaking time of 1:00.38, besting her previous record by two tenths of a second (1:00.40).

In relay action, the team of Carro, Rachel Roberson (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home), Jailya Payne (Buffalo, N.Y./McKiney) and Tiffany Cycon (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) established a new Daemen record in the 4x100 relay.  The group finished fourth overall with a time of 50.54 seconds, cracking the previous top Wildcat time (51:54 seconds) by one second.

In field events, sophomore Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central) and freshman Taylor Haude (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) finished seventh and eighth respectively.  The duo vaulters both cleared 2.97 meters at today's competition.  Jailya Payne added a 14th place finish in the long jump with a leap of 4.80 meters.

Daemen, who finished fifth at last year's championships, travel to West Nyack, New York to compete in the East Coast Conference Championships slated for April 22.
