Men's Golf 5/17/2017 11:09:00 AM Mike Miranto, Associate A.D. For Communications Alumnus Kyle Harman Named Head Men's Golf Coach AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College director of athletics Bridget Niland announced the hiring of alumnus Kyle Harman to the part-time position of head men's golf coach today. A 2013 graduate of the college, Harman returns to his alma mater and the program for which he played as a collegiate student-athlete from 2011-13, helping the team capture the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national championship as a senior. "We are excited to welcome Kyle Harman back to Daemen as our next head men's golf coach," said Niland. "Kyle's enthusiasm and knowledge of the game and Daemen made him the perfect candidate to lead our program." This will be Harman's first foray into the coaching scene, but he's no stranger to amateur golf having competed in three New York State Amateur Tournaments, in addition to his collegiate career. A native of Orchard Park, N.Y., Harman posted a team-best 76.1 stroke average during his senior season for Daemen, and is the current record-holder for low score (64) at Crag Burn Golf Club in East Aurora. "I'm very excited about this opportunity to return to Daemen, and to lead the men's golf program," said Harman. "My experience as a Daemen student-athlete really helped shape the person I am today, and I look forward to providing the same kind of experience to the current players and future recruits. It will be challenging just getting myself up to speed on all the changes that have happened at the college and specifically within the athletic department since I was here as a student, but I believe we have an incredible opportunity to be a program that makes a positive impact on the college. I want to thank Bridget Niland for the trust she's shown in me to take the leadership of this program." Harman takes the reins of the program from Andrew Bennett who stepped down after one season due to professional obligations with his full-time employment. Bennett's tenure was highlighted by the team's first-place finish at the Elmira Spring Invitational, their final outing of the 2016-17 season. The Daemen men's golf team, which is set to return all five players currently on the roster, competes as an independent member of NCAA Division II and the East Region. Harman, who holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Daemen, works full-time as a logistics planner for Praxair, Inc. Print Friendly Version
