Women's Tennis 5/25/2017 2:05:00 PM Mike Miranto, Associate A.D. For Communications Scanlan Named ECC Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete Of The Year AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College student-athlete Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The official announcement of the ECC's Scholar-Athletes of the Year in all sports sponsored by the league was made at the annual ECC Awards Dinner held this past Monday, May 22 at the John J. Cox Student Center on the campus of the University of Bridgeport. To be considered for the award, nominated student-athletes from the league's 10 member and seven associate member schools must achieve a minimum grade-point average of 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale), must have been a starter or key reserve for their respective team and they must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution. A Biochemistry major, Scanlan walked the stage at Daemen's commencement ceremony last weekend after earning seven Dean's List honors during her academic career on Main Street. Athletically, Scanlan finished her career as the all-time leader in singles (47) and doubles (46) wins for the Daemen women's tennis program. The 2016-17 season was perhaps her finest, going 14-11 in singles play to establish a new team record for singles wins in a season. Her 13 doubles wins this year also rank third all-time for a single season. "When I think of life in the balance I think of someone like Hayle Scanlan," said head coach Stephen Beatty. "Not only will she leave Daemen as the all-time leader in singles and doubles wins, but she was one of our top academic performers each and every semester. She will be continuing her studies at the Burrell School of Osteopathic Medicine in New Mexico. I know from watching Hayle during the past four years that she will reach her goal of getting her doctorate degree."
