For Communications ECC Announces Men's Outdoor Track & Field All-League Teams Jemmison, Laird, Dygert Earn First Team All-ECC Honors AMHERST, N.Y. - Sprinter Niko Jemmison (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Generation), multi-event specialist Zach Laird (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central) and thrower Jonathan Dygert (Springville, N.Y./Springville-Griffith) of the Daemen College men's track and field have been named First Team All-East Coast Conference honorees for the 2017 outdoor season. The ECC announced its all-league teams in a press release from conference headquarters in Central Islip, N.Y. yesterday afternoon. In addition to the First Team performers, long distance runner Lucas Canales (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca), long jumper Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) and thrower Sullivan Keller (Alden, N.Y./Alden) were named Second Team All-ECC honorees. The ECC names its all-league honorees based on individual performances at the ECC Championship meet which took place on April 22 at Clarkstown South High School in West Nyack, N.Y. The top two finishers in each event are named First Team All-ECC honorees, while the third and fourth place finishers earn Second Team All-ECC accolades. Jemmison, a 5-foot-10 senior, picked up First Team All-ECC honors for his performance in the 100-meter dash. After posting a time of 11.37 seconds in his preliminary heat, Jemmison went on to finish as the runner-up in the 100-meter dash finals, posting a time of 11.21 seconds. This marks the fourth all-conference honor during Jemmison's career for outdoor track and field. He was a Second-Team All-ECC honoree in the 100-meter dash last season when he posted a school-record time of 10.99 seconds and finished third. He also earned First Team All-ECC honors for the 400-meter dash and Second Team All-ECC honors for the 200-meter dash, both in 2014. Laird, who demonstrated his versatility all season long by competing in throws, jumps, sprints and hurdles, earned First Team All-ECC honors for his second-place finish in the high jump competition. The 5-foot-11 junior cleared 1.78 meters in the high jump, and he went on to add a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.53 seconds to earn Second Team All-ECC honors in that event. It's the second-straight year that Laird has earned multiple All-ECC accolades. In 2016, he was a First Team All-ECC performer in the javelin and a Second-Team All-ECC honoree in the shot put. Dygert, a 6-foot senior, wraps up his career with his first All-ECC honor after finishing second in the javelin. Dygert's best throw in the event reached 47.46 meters. Canales finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run to earn his first individual all-league honor. The 5-foot-8 sophomore registered a time of 16:07.40 in the event. Canales was a member of the Wildcats' 4x800-meter relay team which earned Second Team All-ECC honors in 2016. Reid made his return to outdoor track and field competition at the ECC Championship meet, his first action since the 2015 season. The school record holder in the long jump (6.44 meters), Reid finished fourth with a leap of 6.26 meters. The effort was just shy of his performance from the 2014 ECC Championship meet when he finished second and earned First Team All-ECC honors with a leap of 6.40 meters. Rounding out the team's all-league performers is Keller, a 6-foot-3 freshman. He finished fourth in the shot put during his rookie appearance at the conference championship meet, registering a long toss of 12.18 meters.
