For Communications Spring 2017 Student-Athlete Academic Achievements Released AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College student-athletes once again contributed a solid collective effort in the classroom during the Spring 2017 semester with 68 percent achieving grade-point-averages (GPA) of 3.0 or higher, Director of Athletics Bridget Niland announced today. "Once again we are extremely proud of our student-athletes for how they performed in the classroom during the Spring 2017 semester," said Director of Athletics Bridget Niland. "We never want to lose sight of our mission to provide an atmosphere for our student-athletes to achieve success, both on the field of competition and in the classroom. Academic success amongst our student-athletes will always be a priority for us here at Daemen Athletics." Daemen, which sponsored 16 intercollegiate athletic programs during the 2016-17 academic year with nearly 200 total student-athletes, saw the overall GPA for the entire student-athlete body rise to 3.13, representing a slight increase from the collective GPA of 3.12 achieved during the Fall 2016 semester. Overall, it marked the eighth consecutive semester that Daemen's student-athletes have achieved a collective GPA over 3.0. Breaking down the numbers even further, 15 of the 16 intercollegiate programs achieved team GPAs of 3.0 or higher. The women's triathlon and volleyball teams nearly tied for the highest team GPA at 3.48 and 3.46, respectively, edging out the Fall 2016 semester's top team, women's tennis, which achieved a 3.37 GPA this time around. Daemen's seven intercollegiate men's teams were paced by the 3.21 GPA of the men's tennis program. In addition, 91 student-athletes achieved a GPA of 3.3 or higher, making themselves eligible for Dean's List status, and six student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester. "Balancing success in academics and athletics is the hallmark of the Daemen student-athlete experience," said Dr. Michael Brogan, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College. "We congratulate our student-athletes for their excellence on the field and in the classroom, and commend Daemen Athletics for creating a supportive educational environment where academics is a priority."
