Banker Announces Trio Of Recruiting Commitments

AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College Head Women's Basketball Coach Jenepher Banker announced the signing of three student-athletes for the 2017-18 season today, welcoming NCAA Division I transfers Erin Sinnott (Oswego, Ill./University of Evansville) and Sarah Young (Depew, N.Y./St. Bonaventure University), as well as freshman-to-be Caroline White (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport).

"This class specifically adds experience, versatility, toughness and scoring to our team," said Banker who will enter her second season roaming the Daemen sidelines in 2017-18.  "They are all high character young ladies with leadership qualities."

Sinnott, a 5-foot-11 guard/forward with two years of remaining eligibility, is expected to add some versatility to the Wildcats' arsenal on both ends of the floor after playing two seasons for the Evansville Purple Aces in the Missouri Valley Conference.  While there, Sinnott appeared in 41 games and made five starts, averaging 7.4 minutes and 1.8 points per game while shooting 42 percent from the field and 31.3 percent from three-point range.  Sinnott's efforts helped the Aces improve from three wins during her freshman season to 14 this past year when they advanced to the semifinal round of the MVC Tournament.

As a prep player at Oswego High School in suburban Chicago, Sinnott earned four varsity letters and scored over 1,000 points in her career.  She earned All-Southwest Prairie Conference first-team honors during both her junior and senior seasons while leading the Panthers and coach Chad Pohmann to back-to-back regional championships.  As a junior, Sinnott was named MVP of the Southwest Prairie Conference after helping the Panthers tie the team record for most wins in a season.

"Erin is a talented player who does all of the little things that coaches look for in a player," Banker said.  "She has the versatility and skill to play multiple positions.  Her toughness and experience are attributes we were looking for in this class and we look forward to the impact she can have on the program in multiple ways."

Young is a 6-foot-2 forward who will bring some much-needed size to the Wildcat frontcourt.  She comes to Daemen with three years of remaining eligibility after playing this past season in the Atlantic 10 Conference for the St. Bonaventure Bonnies.  Young appeared in 11 contests and averaged 0.5 points and 0.6 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field during her freshman campaign for the Bonnies.  Academically, Young earned Dean's List and Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades.

Transferring to Daemen brings Young back to Main Street where she starred scholastically for Sacred Heart Academy, just a stone's throw from the campus she'll now call home.  A three-time All-Catholic and All-Western New York selection, Young tallied 1,280 points and 990 rebounds over her career, becoming the first Sacred Heart player in 15 years to surpass the 1,000-point barrier.  As a senior, she led the Sharks and coach Debbie Laux to the Catholic High School Athletic Association Class A championship.  Daemen's Lumsden Gymnasium will provide some familiarity for Young as well, after she earned MVP honors at the prestigious Pastor-Cooper Tournament held here early in her junior season.

"Sarah can go right or left, has great hands and a high basketball IQ," Banker said.  "She is an outstanding student and a high character person whom we are thrilled to have join our program."

The lone freshman of the group is White, a 5-foot-11 forward, who brings an impressive resume built over the last five seasons for the Fairport Red Raiders and coach Mark Schaller.  A four-time All-Monroe County selection, White capped her brilliant prep career this past winter by averaging 16.6 points and 11 rebounds per game while leading Fairport to a share of the Monroe County Division I regular-season championship.  It marked the second-straight season that White had averaged a double-double as she posted similar stats (16.1 ppg, 11 rpg) during her junior campaign.  In doing so, she surpassed 1,000 points for her career and earned her second-straight selection to the All-Greater Rochester first-team as named by the Democrat and Chronicle.  In addition, White was named to the All-State second team by USA Today High School Sports, and was one of six finalists for the title of Ms. New York Basketball, the Basketball Coaches Association of New York's Player of the Year award.

"Caroline is one of the hardest workers I've ever seen," Banker said.  "She plays with great energy and never takes a play off.  Her versatility will allow her to play multiple positions as she can post or step out and hit three-pointers.  We are excited Caroline has joined our program and we expect her to have an immediate impact."

The trio of recruits is set to join a Wildcat team which is coming off an 11-15 campaign in 2016-17, marking the team's most wins since becoming an active member of NCAA Division II.  The Wildcats will return eight players, including three starters from their 2016-17 roster.  Among the returners is two-time first-team All-East Coast Conference honoree Sarah Saba (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) who enters her senior season already ranking 12th in team history with 1,257 points.
