For Communications 5 Student-Athletes Among Trustee Scholarship Recipients AMHERST, N.Y. - Five incoming student-athletes are among a group of 16 total students to be announced as recipients of Daemen College's most prestigious academic scholarships - the 2017 Trustee Scholarships and the Transfer Trustee Scholarships. Last week, Daemen announced 10 recipients of the 2017 Trustee Scholarships which are awarded to first-year students exclusively, and six recipients of the Transfer Trustee Scholarships which are awarded to high-achieving new transfer students. The scholarships are renewable throughout the students' undergraduate studies. First-year student-athletes among the 2017 Daemen Trustee Scholars are: Anthony Cupello Rochester, N.Y. Greece Arcadia HS Accounting Men's Soccer Alex Hasiotis Rochester, N.Y. Greece Odyssey HS Athletic Training Women's Bowling Aiden Tolley Pittsford, N.Y. Pittsford Mendon HS Undeclared Men's Soccer To be considered for the Trustee Scholarship, prospective first-year students are nominated by Daemen President Gary A. Olson to apply for the awards and then participate in interviews with college faculty and staff. More than 200 top students from Connecticut, Maryland, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas and other states from across the U.S., as well as from Canada competed for this year's coveted scholarships. Student-athletes among the 2017 Transfer Trustee Scholars are: Carly Scott Batavia, N.Y. Genesee Community College Biology Women's Triathlon Andrew Ward Falconer, N.Y. Jamestown Community College Physical Therapy Men's Soccer Prospective transfer students are also nominated by Daemen's president to compete for Trustee Scholarships and are interviewed on Transfer Trustee Scholar's Night held in the spring. Selection for both the first-year and transfer scholarships is based on academic achievement, vision for self and society, enthusiasm and inspiration, academic and personal discipline, and leadership ability. Both intellect and character are considered, and selected scholars are those who have the potential to make a difference in their careers and in the Daemen and external communities. "In athletics, we are very aware that our role is to contribute to the growth and strength of the college. Our coaches continue to demonstrate their understanding of that role by recruiting and signing high-achieving student-athletes who excel academically as well as in their chosen sport," said Director of Athletics Bridget Niland. "We congratulate these five student-athletes on receiving these prestigious scholarships. It is a competitive process and we look forward to them bringing that passion for competition to the classroom, the soccer field, the bowling alley and the triathlon course in the coming years." The five new scholarship recipients join current Daemen student-athletes Monique Green (women's soccer; Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South), Sydney MacInnis (women's volleyball; Superior, Colo./Fairview) and Pauley Pitcher II (men's golf; Baldwinsville, N.Y./Charles W.
