Women's Tennis Picks Up ITA Academic Awards

AMHERST, N.Y. - Four members of the Daemen College women's tennis team - Shaylah Iverson (Canandaigua, N.Y./Naples), Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda), MacKenzie Robbins (Rome, N.Y./Holland Patent) and Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) - were among the 3,908 recipients nationwide of Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2016-17 academic year, the organization announced today.

To be considered for ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, student-athletes must achieve a grade-point average of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2016-17 academic year. The four Daemen honorees were among 781 from NCAA Division II programs. The ITA Scholar-Athlete program covers all levels of collegiate competition, from Division I to junior college.

In addition to the individuals honored, Daemen was one of 138 NCAA Division II teams to be named an ITA All-Academic Team. That award recognizes teams that achieve a collective yearly grade-point average of 3.20 or higher.

"I couldn't be prouder of this team for all that it continues to achieve academically," said head coach Stephen Beatty. "These ladies have a firm grasp of the NCAA Division II philosophy of life in the balance which is so well promoted throughout our Athletic Department here at Daemen. Congrats to Shaylah, Hayle, Gretchen and MacKenzie on their individual awards, and to each team member for the work they put in to add All-Academic Team honors to our collective resume."
